July 2012

July was a busy month,
there was a special birthday, concerts, holidays and winter sunshine.

Daddy turned 40 - and we celebrated with a Pacman cake and a big beach walk - which involves thermal gear!  A new tradition is celebrating Daddy's birthday with the Playschool concert that comes to Newcastle every July (Daddy is very excited about this particular birthday celebration!).  This year the presenters were Jay and Abbie and they were both fantastic - last year Oliver was not so sure about the concert but this year he sang a few songs and had a good time with his friend Amaia.

After the concert it was straight to the airport and Freya's first flight.  Thank goodness for grommets flying for Oliver is a dream.  Freya also seemed to think flying was pretty cool she slept during take off and landing and charmed the lady next to us for the rest of the time.

Melbourne was lovely Freya met all of her cousins and family.
She thought it was not too bad being adored and cuddled.

Great Aunt Audrey

Melbourne also gave us the opportunity for our first visit to the zoo
where we saw really animals and also bins!!
It will be hard to believe but Oliver was more excited about the bins at the zoo than the animals!

We also went to the museum which was pretty wonderful for a rainy day activity.  There were lovely animals to cuddle, stilts to walk on and the best rainforest display - we will definitely go back there.

Once back in sunny Newcastle - we headed to the beach and Freya had her first sand experience. There were spades and buckets to chew on.

Oliver loves the beach - he is getting braver about the waves and we walk in the breakwater and he is also quite happy to explore the rockpools.

Daddy on holiday was also fun with lots of special cuddles.

At the end of July we went to a concert celebrating Peter Rabbit.  It was in the evening so that Daddy could come - hence the slightly tired looking poppets.
Oliver enjoyed bits and pieces but mostly liked the love lights on the concert hall ceiling.

As Freya is getting older and more mobile, there is definitely more interaction between Oliver and his sister.....here he is letting Freya be the lawnmower with her matching orange hat - which is really her soft bucket.  He is mostly gentle and so far we have not had any disasters!

There has also been plenty of sunshine, have we mentioned how fabulous winter in Newcastle is????? One of our favourite things to do is blow bubbles in the back garden.......

Now I am three!

It will come as no great surprise to anyone that knows Oliver
that the theme of his third birthday was -
 RUBBISH BINS and BIN TRUCKS!

One very tired and still very unwell three year old boy on his birthday morning!

Birthday dinner... complete with requested menu of pizza and garlic bread.
Oh - plus a Lego bin truck!

Lego bin truck -
chances of getting Oliver into bed tonight?

Birthday Cake (number 1) with sprinkle bin truck

Then there was the party!

The invite

the party favours -

bin truck biscuits tied to balloons

the cake - in case you were wondering
an orange bin truck with a blue man of course!

Each evening in the bath Oliver draws
an orange bin truck with a blue man, six black wheels and a black arm to lift the bins.

Bin truck sprinkle bread

Bin truck sandwiches

What does every three year old boy need?
A handmade dinasour tail obviously!

Thank you Oenone for Oliver's tail and Mama's matching one!
Ready for the Dino stomp!

No bin party is complete without some bin action!

the candles (in bin colours of course!)

Miss Freya with her party dress and party balloon

Oliver and his friends enjoying the bubbles.

Oliver you have been everything we thought having you in our lives would be and then even more that we could have anticipated.

You are a great delight, a complete goose and our beloved Shmollie - we have loved most of the last three years and we are so excited to see what this fourth year brings!

June 2012

June has been a lovely month
-  all the yuckiness of May has resolved and we had birthday's to celebrate and parties to plan!

The Newcastle Museum is a fantastic rainy day excursion and  Oliver loves the interactive nature.
The museum is orientated towards scientific principles and there is a fantastic experiment where children (and Dads)
can pull on ropes to lift a car up.
Excellent to burn off energy on a rainy day.

There was the now traditional visit to Winter Heat in the city at night in the freezing cold.  Two years ago when Oliver turned one it was our first evening adventure!

There was Mama's 40th birthday

There was the birthday visit by Margi and Tom -
please note the presence of Margi bear and Tom bear in the group photo.

Oliver moved into a real bed - luckily we got the king single as there is barely any room for Oliver in the bed once all the teddies have been tucked in!  Two of those teddies are turning 40 this year  - Happy Birthday!

We walked up to the lighthouse to see if the whales were passing by -
not that exciting if you are nearly three and nearly not one!

Mama and Daddy thought the walk was quite lovely
and the sunshine was equally glorious
and we tried out the scooter on pram contraption (hence the helmet)
another winning gadget from mountain buggy!

Oliver had a second set of grommets put in -
looking calm and collected before the operation -
looking sad and sorry afterwards.

There were lots of birthday cuddles at the combined Oliver, Mama and Daddy
birthday breakfast with our Newcastle Family -
Thankyou for getting up so early Trish, Paul, Megan and Justin

Oh and Freya says -
"in June I sat up!"
